Item Variants

Item Variants are variations of the same product with different attributes (e.g., a t-shirt available in Small, Medium, Large in Red, Blue, and Black).

Creating Item Variants

  1. Create the needed Item Attributes first (e.g., Size, Color).
  2. Create the parent Item and check Has Variants.
  3. In the Attributes table, select the relevant attributes.
  4. Click the Create Variants button.
  5. The system generates all attribute combinations:

- If Size = S, M, L and Color = Red, Blue, it generates 6 variants:

- S-Red, S-Blue, M-Red, M-Blue, L-Red, L-Blue

  1. Select which combinations to create (you can deselect unwanted ones).
  2. Click Create.

Managing Variants

Each variant is a separate Item with:

  • Its own Item Code (auto-generated based on naming template)
  • Its own price (can differ from other variants)
  • Its own stock level (tracked independently)
  • Its own barcode
  • Its own image

Template Item

The parent/template item:

  • Is NOT a stock item itself (acts as a template only)
  • Cannot be used in transactions directly
  • Shows an overview of all variants and their stock levels
  • Is used to configure attributes for variant generation

Updating Variants

If you add a new attribute value (e.g., a new color "Green"):

  1. Add the value to the Item Attribute.
  2. Go to the template item.
  3. Re-generate variants — only the new combinations are created.

Benefits

  • Manage hundreds of SKUs under a single parent item
  • Each variant can have its own pricing and stock management
  • Easy navigation: browse template, drill into specific variant
  • Reports aggregate across all variants of a template
